Let me start by saying that this isn’t me saying that Usyk isn’t great because he is but hear me out. Regardless of who’s fault it is, last year we got:
– Povetkin instead of Unification.
– This year we get Ruiz instead of Miller.
– Next he wants us to watch him fight a guy that would only just have debuted at heavyweight.
It’s bad enough that we’re expected to pay to watch Joshua cash in on fighting Ruiz, but he doesn’t show any signs of wanting to take dangerous fights.
Yes ok! Eddie made a half descent attempt with Ortiz, but they could of picked the negotiations back up after the apology.
The facts are that if he was really interested in fan friendly fights then he would of put his hand in his pocket during negotiations with Whyte, Wilder and Fury then we’d be getting the kind of fights we want from him. Instead what’s happened is he’s chased after some PED user in America that had no real faith in himself so needed to stick performance enhancing rubbish in his system, now we end up with this joke of a fight with Ruiz.
Don’t you guys think Joshua owes it to the fan to Atleast try to put a descent fight on next?! Eddie is always saying “these guys shouldn’t worry about money, if they unify they call the shots forever” but that doesn’t apply to AJ?!
It’s not Joshua’s fault that Miller did what he did but the point I’m making is if he’d have chucked an extra £1 – £2mil into negotiating with Whyte or Ortiz, then we wouldn’t even be in this mess.
There are two heavyweights that are truly stepping up at the moment! Andy Ruiz and Dillian Whyte. Whyte is a prime example of what the rest what the apparant “top heavyweights” should be doing which is taking risks, keeping active, pushing himself and providing us with fan friendly fights.
Let me tell you something about Dillian! He doesn’t need to be fighting Rivas, he could sit and play with the PPV he’s earned over the last two years while waiting to be made mandatory like he should be already! But in my opinion he is taking the biggest risk with the smallest reward out of any other heavyweight on the planet right now, so thank you Dillian!
And what are our other top heavyweights doing may you ask?!
Tyson Fury is fighting a guy that attempted to FAKE being knocked out by an “illegal headbutt” to escape the last fight he was in.
Deontay Wilder is fight Dominic Breazeale! But to be fair atleast Breazeale is mandatory and is not a 6″2 disadvantaged pensioner like Povetkin was.
Anthony Joshua? Well my friends! Our heavyweight King is fighting Andy Ruiz Jnr, I don’t believe for a second that it’s fair to poke fun at Ruizs’ physical appearance and I have watched a lot of Andy latley but if anyone think he poses a significant threat to Joshua then I genuinely lose faith in life.
I wish Ruiz the best! He’s certainly one of the best out of the shortlist that was put together, but is he really in there to win? Or is he paper chasing? Regardless off his reasons the man needs credit for stepping up.
Oh but wait! It doesn’t stop there! Joshua has also stated that if he cannot get Wilder after Ruiz (which he clearly won’t as Wilder has 2 more fights planned before AJ) that he will be looking at Usyk???!!!
This is just ridiculous! Eddie hearn had this supposid “short list of 5 incredible heavyweight opponents” to step in as replacements after Miller pulled out! So go pick some of them of and let Usyk find his feet! Or don’t forget about the fact that Pulev is mandatory now and we all know how Josh and Eddie love a mandatory. Usyk isn’t even stepped in the ring as a pro havyweight yet and he’s already being eyed up by our ” heavyweight King” it’s madness!
This is not a credible fight! Were talking about the ruler of the heavyweight division fighting a guy that’s not even made the heavyweight limit yet and he’s just moved up from a lighter division! What’s credible about it?!
Don’t get this twisted though and belive me when I say that I am a huge Usyk fan! He’s the only reason I watched the cruiserweight WBSS. But I remember watching Johnny Nelson in a interview back when AJ was coming up the ranks and he said that ” we can’t rush Anthony Joshua because you’ll ruin him” so why is it ok to rush Usyk?!
I promise you all that Usyk will beat Joshua if he’s given time, but not now! What a ridiculous expectation! Imagen putting Joshua in with Klitschko after his 10th Pro fight, he wouldn’t have been ready!
My guess is that Hearn can see the threat that Usyk will pose after another 3 warm up fights at heavyweight and doesn’t want to wait for him to get to comfortable. Either that or Usyk is on some fight by fight basis with Matchroom and Hearn wants to secure this before ESPN or Showtime start trying to snatch him.
Either way, I don’t see a potential Usyk V Joshua fight being credible for Atleast another 12 – 18 months after Usyk’s had time to find himself at heavyweight.
We could potentially have:
– Gold Medallist V Gold Medalist
– unified champion V unified champion
– unbeaten King V unbeaten king
Have we even had that before? Who wouldn’t want it?! But when the time is right! Eddie has spent long enough bragging about “the Joshua V Wilder fight is now 5 times bigger than it was year” so do your job properly Eddie and market Usyk V Joshua for a full year and that’ll be 5 times bigger too!
All I’ve got left to say is that I haven’t paid or even gone to the trouble of trying to stream a AJ fight for a very long time, and it doesn’t look like I’m about to anytime soon.
