Eddie Hearn has revealed that British Heavyweight favourite Dave Allen has agreed terms with Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne for a fight in in April. Although no specific date or venue has been set yet, the conformation of the bout gives the Doncaster man the opportunity to have a full camp in order to be ready after a number of last minute calls have seen him taking fights on short notice.
Allen 16-4-2 (13ko’s) who is loved by the British public for his honesty, quick wit and his happy go lucky character will be looking to make it 4 wins on the bounce after a really mixed bag of performances. The Brit was stopped by Tony Yoka in the 10th round back in June last year but has since stopped his last 3 opponents. He detonated a devastating right hand in the 4th round against then unbeaten prospect Nick Webb that would have left most on the canvas before forcing Ariel Estabien Bracamonte to retire between rounds last time out.
Having said that the Australian will be no pushover and himself is looking to continue a winning streak. The former WBA regular champion 27-1 (24 KO’s) tasted defeat for the first time in his career when he was viciously knocked out by Dillian Whyte at the 02 arena in March last year, but after rebuilding his career back in Australia knocking his last 2 opponents out he is keen to take on a fight which inevitably could open some big doors for the winner.
39 year old Browne has had his critics after his ban for the use of PED’S, he has always protested his innocence and his took himself off forms of social media after a large amount of online abuse to which he retaliated with a video telling his haters they were welcome to confront him and tell him their views in person rather than from behind a computer screen.
For Allen on the other hand this certainly wouldn’t be the first time he is facing someone who has been convicted of using PED’S and he claimed it would be hypocritical of him to pull them down when he is been paid for fighting them knowing the situation.
Honest And Critical
The 26 year old who made his professional debut back in 2012 has built a career known as a man who will stand and trade with anyone without taking a backwards step. Dave has openly said on numerous occasions whilst he may not technically be the best boxer in the world he truly believes anything he does lack in that department he more than makes up for with pure grit and determination, having said that Allen isn’t a man who can’t box but uses his strengths to his advantage and likes to drag his opponents into the trenches. He doesn’t seem happy unless its a war and has proved on numerous occasions that even when taking fights on short notice and not in the best of shape he will gladly stand toe to toe for as long as needed.
Fighters with a style like Dave Allen who like a war will always be fan favourirte’s, especially when they’re as honest and as critical of their own performance as he is but he really captured the hearts of the nation when he openly talked about a gambling addiction and the problems he had encountered with mental health.
Hopefully the notice he has for this showdown will see him in the best shape possible to showcase his ability, one thing is for sure Dave Allen’s tenacity and determination up against Lucas Browne’s size and power is an enthralling encounter that I along with many others are looking forward to see.
